Radio artist and surreal philosopher Joe Frank meant a great deal to me at a crucial and difficult time in my life and his idiosyncratic and brilliant art inspired, baffled and entertained.
Life he said in a monologue, is like being in a restaurant on a first date with a woman you’ve long admired. But “there is a waiting list and the names will be called in alphabetical order — and your name is Zarathustra.”
As much as I love Ira Glass (who he inspired) I maintain that Ira’s programs are prose, while Joe Frank…is Poetry.
Shine on you crazy diamond. We’ll not see another of your like.
